Using various title fonts and title names - Outgone

As a group, we have decided to use a range of different types of fonts to be used while making our draft titles, we have also changed the name of the opening 2 minute short film various times, the one that we are currently using now is "Outgone". I (James), made a rough title sequence that will be uploaded in the next post, which was made and produced on Sony Vegas 10, this opening sequence is not the official opening titles as we constantly changing the title, which will soon be finalised and then another title sequence will be produced. We have used various fonts for this opening titles (Outgone) here are some of them.

What we have here is 5 different fonts that have our draft title "Outgone" which will be changed to a different title as we progress. This is just to give us a rough idea on what sort of font we would like for our final production. Personally, I prefer the Second font and the Last font as they are both quite action/thriller designed and it makes them stand out. One of these would be used in our final production title sequence to give a more action effect to our 2 minute production.

Paramount Pictures film institution

Paramount Pictures Corporation is a film and television production/distribution company, consistently ranked as one of the largest movie studios. A lot of expensive and well known films are made by Paramount e.g. Iron man, Transformers, The Godfather etc.

Film industries - Universal

Universal pictures was founded in 1912 and is one of the oldest movie studios in the United states. Founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle, Mark Dintenfass, Charles Baumann, Adam Kessel, Pat Powers, William Swanson, David Horsley, and Jules Brulatour, and its headquarters is in universal city in Orlando.
Universal has made its fair share of famous movies, some of these being:
  • Bridesmaides
  • Fast and Furious 5
  • Tower Heist
  • Paul
  • Bruno
As you can see, Universal pictures does movies that relate to mine. For example, the cast of Paul consists of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, both are English actors and we'll be having an English based theme. Fast and furious 5 has some incredible action scenes and tower heist also has some action scenes as well.
Overall, we may use Universal as an industry to include in our opening title sequence for our 2 minute film as it produces films that have an action genre, for example, Fast and Furious 5, as I said before uses a lot of types of Action based themes in the films, such as fights and extreme car chases with explosions etc.

Warner Bro's Film institution

WARNER BROS- Warner Bros Entertainment is an American producer of film, television, and music entertainment. It mainly specialises in films like adventure e.g. Harry Potter, Batman, Incpetion and The Matrix. Then a few comedies like The Hangover and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Warner Bros have made a gargantuan amount of well established and recognized films; some of them being:

  • Lord of the Rings
  • Rush Hour
  • Austin Powers
  • A nightmare on Elm Street
  • Harold and Kumar.
As you can see, Warner Bros has produced films of different genres and they have also established themselves through television producing such hits like Pokemon and loony Tunes which both later on became successful movies.

As I'm looking at what film production company I would like to include in my movie, I would have thought that a film production company as big as Warner Brothers won't be appropriate for a small, British Urban-Action film such as mine until I found that Green Street was produced by DeeGee entertainment which is funded and owned by Warner Brothers, thus showing that Warner bros will be an appropriate film production company to use at the front of my movie.

Dreamworks Film Institution

DREAMWORKS- Dreamworks Studios is an American film studio which develops, produces, and distributes films, video games and television programming. It has produced or distributed more than ten films with box-office grosses totalling more than $100 million each. They mainly specialise in horror films like Paranormal Activity, The Ring etc. It also does a few child films like Up and Shrek

Thriller Analysis

This is providing research into the thriller genre and its target audience's for different films. It is now possible to make a target audience profile for our thriller film in production.
The age group of the target audience is around 16-25 years, as 75% of the thriller-viewers sample were students. For our film, this can be related to by the audience, as our main characters are teenagers/young adults, providing a pathway for connection from the audience.
The gender of the target audience isn't as specific as age ranges or demographic classification, but is important nonetheless. For our film, the gender of the target audience would mainly be males, though females could be attracted to the film also. This is because, research done into the films we were "inspired" by, showed that males enjoyed the type of film more than females. Kidulthood for example, had user ratings from males as 6.0, however females were only 4.3. It also showed that 18 to 29 year olds (both male and female) enjoyed the film more than under 18's, as both 18-29 year groups voted at 6.4, however under 18 males only voted 6.0, and females only voted a low 3.2. Also, for Layer Cake, males overall rated the movie higher than females, though it was pretty close. However, for our other inspirational film Adulthood, although males overall voted 7.0, and females voted at 6.0, females under 18 voted 0.4 more than males, and were equal in ratings in the 18-29 group. This shows how the female audience is already attracted to our type of film, as there is a certain aspect of a male lead (etc) that is appealing to them, even though there are few females in each movie, and most of them that do appear are not portrayed in a respected manner. Our film isn't going to have any female actresses.
The majority of our target audience will be made up of students due to the age range. Also because of how around 75% of my thriller consumption research proved to be thriller fans.
The interests of our target audience are demonstrated mostly by other thriller films they like, so film reviews of films that we have associated with our film (such as kidulthood, its sequal, and layer cake) are important, as shown above with the gender and age results i obtained from http://www.imdb.com/ and their user ratings.
I think the demographic choice for us will be more C1 and C2. Most films are made for B, C1 & C2 due to the fact that they can afford luxuries like the cinema, and have the means and time to go see films or buy DVD's, however i think B may be aiming a bit high for our film, as it is mainly about C1 and C2 people, students in fact, who have not yet reached the B standard.
